Ever wonder what Guests really DO Remember about Weddings ?
Well planned events make for the most memorable Weddings, not only for You, but for your Guests too.
Nothing makes me feel more pleased then when I see one of my clients and they tell me that people are still talking about how great their wedding was.
In my research and experiences at our events, we found that there are a few common things that leave lasting impressions and a few that don't that might save you a bit of Money....
3 Things Guests WILL Remember About Your Wedding Day
Food, Glorious Food!
People love to eat so make sure its good. You are spending good money on it so ask your caterer if you can have a tasting. Make sure that you provide them with an accurate timeline so the food is not sitting there for two hours before you are actually ready to eat it. And if you are planning on just having Hors d'oeuvres be aware of the time...if your reception is going to take place during dinner hour, make sure you have plenty of options as with will be considered dinner for most of your guests.
A DJ is always a great choice! You have the ability for diversity in your music...consider the guests what you think they will enjoy with a variety for both young and old.
The Venue/Decor ~
Venues and Decor should go hand in hand….if you choose a Barn, think Rustic Southern Charm, if you pick a Hotel Ballroom think Centerpieces - Up lighting - Drape. , but don't over do it! The Decor is made to enhance and/or transform a venue so choose something with good bones, and understand that every venue has its limitations..so keep in mind that inspiration photos are just that....something to inspire a similar vision that may fit into the venue you have chosen. Whatever you choose, make sure guests are aware of what type of venue that you have selected especially if you are having an outdoor ceremony or reception.
12 Things NOT memorable to your Guests that might surprise you and could save you some money....BUT if you do decide to go for it...do for YOU!
Invitations - they will rarely save them…the average couple will spend about $450
Programs - they usually end up in the trash at the end of the night.
Guest Book~ I have noticed a that the Traditional Guest Book, that ends up in a box somewhere with over half of the pages left blank...This Guest Sign In Tradition has been replaced by fun artistic pieces. Be creative...this is really for you so it don't matter if the guests remember it...you are the one who will cherish this memory so make it interesting....
Expensive Linens - Very Pretty, but consider saving Special linens for the Cake or Sweetheart Tables
Wedding Favors - If you are planning for this consider something edible...everyone loves food….(Donuts, Mini Jars of Honey, Godiva Chocolates, S'mores, A Cupcake, Mini Jars of Jam, a Candy Buffet, or a Cookie Buffet )
Bridal Portrait - I can say that I have never heard any guest remark " What ? No Bridal Portrait?" This is entirely for you....and maybe your Mom :o)
Bouquet / Garter Toss - Think about how many singles will really be there, you can always have the little contest of sorts to see who has been married the longest and have the bouquet given to the wife!
Fresh Flowers - Silk flowers have come a long way and often times guests don't know the difference when my clients choose to use them in lieu of fresh flowers...I can't tell you how many times I have seen guest reach up and touch them and say OMG! Candles are always a good substitute too! And add a romantic, warm feeling to the room. If you do decide to chose to use fresh flowers there really is no need to spend tons of money on specialty flowers and have the guests take them home at the end of the night or at least have them donated somewhere.
The Cake - Wedding Cake gets a Bad Rap so make sure to have a cake tasting if you are planning on serving cake as dessert, though you should know that most times the cake gets delivered very early say 1pm for a 6pm reception :( ...consider a smaller cutting cake and ask your baker if they would consider having a sheet cake for cutting in the back or perhaps a Cutting Cake on Top with a Couple of Faux Cake Tiers and a sheet cake in the back for serving. And if you are un-traditional consider a variety or cupcakes or a mini dessert bar instead.
First Dance - You gotta do it though!! That’s photo op time right...so make it memorable ...no 3rd grade away!
Mother/Son - Father/ Daughter Again! Photo Op time! We have combined the two several times and Guests seems to really like this.
Your Wedding Dress - Whatever!?? I say you have to say “YES to the Dress” whatever the cost (well as long as it is in the budget)...you are in the spotlight and you want to feel BEAUTIFUL!
